Where is it raining next? A closer look at 'a chance of rain'

US

AUSTIN (KXAN) — It is one of the most important questions a weather forecaster can answer: “what is the chance of rain?” This question is a little more complicated than we think. For many of us, we think the the chance of rain is about, well, us. How likely am I to see rain on a given day?

But this isn’t how weather forecasters work. So what does this phrase really mean?

Meteorologist Kristen Currie digs into this question and what it means for you in this First Warning Weather University lesson.

What you will learn in this FWWU lesson:

  • Why do forecasters say “chance of rain?”
  • Why meteorologists are talking so much about land.
  • How this phrase applies to Central Texas.
