AUSTIN (KXAN) — East Austin coffee shop Try Hard Coffee Roasters announced late last week its final day in business is Sunday.
Try Hard first opened during the pandemic at 1115 E. 11th St., its ownership said in a farewell Instagram post. They attributed the closure to the amount of debt taken on to support the business.
“The truth is we (as owners, yes entirely our fault and we own it) had to take on too much debt to get open and operate through the course of all of the challenges we faced by being a bootstrapped [café] during a very unstable time,” the post read in part. “The debt and debt repayments have snowballed, and we have been left with no choice but to let Try Hard go.”
Try Hard will be open through 2 p.m. Sunday for patrons to visit the café one last time and purchase coffee, pastries or records from local musicians. Try Hard is also operating a GoFundMe to aid staff members following the closure, as owners said “unemployment is not enough to cover bills and [staff] have been given no heads up on all this as it spiraled out of control for us very recently.”
The shop said an announcement will be made shortly on which business will take over the space.
“We are very grateful to be able to pass the torch and know this place will be in good hands. At the same time, we are devastated and wanted more than anything to see Try Hard live forever. And in some ways it will, thanks to everyone who has been a part of it. We love you all,” the post wrapped. “Everything dies. Today is our day. Please support our team, they need you. And support the bands that make Austin what it is.”
