Block leaders wanted
Cupertino is inviting residents who are passionate about public safety and their neighborhoods to volunteer as block leaders, with the goal of connecting neighbors and building a sense of community. Block leaders also let their neighbors know what’s going on around the city, all in an effort to help create a more resilient community.
Block leaders attend program meetings to get to know their fellow volunteers and help hold community events, which can be as simple as meeting in the park or a nearby coffee shop.
The city is holding a block leader orientation May 18 to discuss best practices, program expectations, and available resources, as well as potential topics for gatherings and solutions to common questions and concerns.
The orientation is set for 10-11 a.m. at Cupertino City Hall, 10300 Torre Ave. Register at https://events.californiavolunteers.ca.gov/opportunities/rG95v9wKPC.
Symphonic band concert
The Cupertino Symphonic Band is holding its annual spring concert on Sunday May 19, at 3 p.m. in the Sunnyvale Community Center’s Rec Center Ballroom, 550 E. Remington Drive, Sunnyvale. Admission is free; donations of canned goods benefit West Valley Community Services.

Agriculture walk
Bay Area Older Adults is hosting a California Agriculture Walk around Martial Cottle Park in San Jose on May 8, 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
The leisurely walk includes a stop for a presentation at Our City Forest and ends with an included picnic lunch. Registration for Hike 8 is required by visiting https://www.bayareaolderadults.org/may.
