Using plant labels in your garden is a must! It is the only way to tell your plants apart, especially when you have lots of varieties or unique varieties you need to remember. Buying plant markers from the shops or nurseries can become expensive – especially in South Africa. DIY plant labels are quick and easy to make and use. All you need is an empty yoghurt tub and some scissors – that’s it!

How do you make DIY garden markers?

Step 1: Find an empty yoghurt tub and clean it out
Step 2: Cut vertical lines from the top edge to the bottom edge of the tub
Step 3: Shape the bottom of your tabs and start writing

Once you start getting into gardening DIY projects you will quickly find yourself looking at every piece of waste differently. There are many different types of materials and pieces of ‘trash’ that can be used for your new vegetable garden labels. How amazing would it be having guests walk through your vegetable garden and looking at all the names of the wonderful varieties of plants you have?
