AUSTIN (KXAN) — Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, said Friday via social media that his “The New World Tour,” which included a stop at Austin’s Moody Center, had to be canceled due to medical reasons.

Glover previously announced in a Sept. 9 social media post that he was postponing his North American tour due to focus on his health. He said that he planned to reschedule the tour’s shows, and that attendees should “hold onto your tickets.”

But in an Oct. 4 post, Glover announced the tour’s cancelation. The artist said that after a performance in New Orleans, he went to a Houston-area hospital for tests.

“I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure of an ailment that had become apparent,” Glover wrote. “After being assessed, it became clear I would not perform that night, and after more tests, I could not perform the rest of the US tour in the time asked.”

The nature of Glover’s health concerns weren’t released by the artist, but he noted that it required surgery. He asked for privacy as he heals.

“My path to recovery is something I need to confront seriously,” he wrote. “I want nothing more than to bring this show to the fans and perform. Until then, thanks for love, privacy, and support.”

Glover said that refunds will be issued for the remaining shows.
