The Quincy Police Department said the two suspects led an elaborate scam involving at least one other person to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars from a Quincy senior citizen.

Two men allegedly stole more than $120,000 from a Quincy senior citizen through a tech support scam, officials said.

Quincy police arrested the two men on Thursday, as the suspects allegedly were picking up cash from the victim.

The suspects allegedly targeted the victim through falsified emails and calls, the Quincy Police Department said in a statement. The suspects allegedly pretended to be the victim’s financial institutions and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, police said.

The two suspects, 27-year-old Shaoquin Liu, and 33-year-old Shiwang Ning, are both from Brooklyn, police said. Authorities charged both with one count of larceny and two charges of fraud, court documents show.

Representation for Liu and Ning did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Police allege the scam began when the victim received a notification on their computer. The notification allegedly told the victim they were “locked out” of their computer and instructed them to call a number. When the victim contacted the listed number, police said, an unidentified woman told the victim there was suspicious activity on their bank account.

Thus began an “ongoing” scam, police said. The woman on the phone allegedly convinced the victim she was from the FDIC and talked them into withdrawing large sums of money from the bank. Then, another person came by the victim’s house to pick up the cash, reports said. Police said this exchange happened multiple times.

Police said the suspects accessed the victim’s computer remotely, obtaining the private financial information of the victim. The report details how the suspects allegedly used the victim’s information to pose as various financial institutions to steal more money from the victim.

It was at this point the victim grew suspicious and contacted Quincy police, the department said.

“I am happy that these two criminals were arrested by our Detectives and our department will intensify our efforts to educate our city’s senior population about these scams and web based fraud,” Police Chief Mark Kennedy said.
