What Everyone’s Ordering For Delivery In The Hamptons This Summer

Food & Drink

What happens behind the hedges at private homes across the Hamptons every summer may feel mysterious, but now we have a little data to peek into what’s going on behind closed doors.

DoorDash shared the most ordered items and trendiest purchases out in the Hamptons so far this summer, and while some deliveries are predictable, the selections are intriguing. And indicative of the leisure class really wanting to avoid that Montauk Highway traffic.

“It’s probably not surprising that we saw an uptick in DoorDash orders for rosé from Hamptons vacationers this summer,” says Alanna Shipley, Consumer Insights Expert at DoorDash. “What was interesting, however, is that we saw an increase in laptop accessories like wireless mouse and keyboards, which makes us believe that Hampton-goers are taking advantage of flexible work and participating in ‘quiet vacationing’ thanks to the convenience of DoorDash delivery. With everything you need to work hard and play hard available for delivery, DoorDash is helping consumers make the most out of their summer workations.”

A work hard, relax hard (hopefully) mentality was definitely evident in the data. This summer, DoorDash saw a significant uptick in computer accessory delivery orders including wireless mouse and keyboards (thanks to Staples delivery). Is it quiet vacationing? Or poor planning? Beauty staples including eyeliner, concealer, brow gel, and self-tanning products also increased for both weekday and weekend deliveries. Those online shopping who don’t want to drive to town to deal with returns can also order pre-paid package pickup viaDoorDash.

Partying hard is also so far a theme. DoorDash has seen a 290% rise in alcohol purchases across beer, hard seltzer, wine and more. Within that increase, there’s a 340% increase in orders for spirits, with vodka and tequila as the top picks. Wine is up 260% in orders. Unsurprisingly, Rosé reigns supreme, followed by orders for Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

With no major chains, fast food isn’t prominent in the Hamptons, but that doesn’t stop summer people from craving light night munchies. In June and July, DoorDash has seen a 118% spike in late night orders in the Hamptons, between 9pm-4am. The most popular items to order after dinner include fries, nuggets, and chicken sandwiches. Open until midnight, Speedway is the latest option for essentials out east, be it for alcohol, ice cream or chips.

And, of course, New Yorkers will be New Yorkers. DoorDash data reveals that New York’s beloved breakfast staple, the bacon, egg, and cheese, remains the go-to even when New Yorkers trek east. The classic BEC was Hampton’s most ordered breakfast item this summer, followed by hash browns and a bagel with cream cheese. And while East Hampton’s Brekkie Bagels is on DoorDash, famed local bagel empire, The Original Goldberg’s Famous Bagels, is all about that old fashioned go inside, wait in line situation.
