Selena Gomez and her stylist, Erin Walsh, have used the Emilia Pérez press tour to show the power of an all-black look. After wearing a black Vera Wang gown adorned with a bow to the film’s New York City premiere on Monday, Gomez debuted not one, but two more black outfits yesterday. Her first was decidedly more casual: a deep V-neck blouse paired with jeans and a black belt.
At night, Gomez switched into something a little more formal. She wore a twill Prada minidress with one of the brand’s micro bags and finished the look off with sheer tights, platform heels, and statement earrings.
She later added a long black satin coat.
The day before, Gomez wore her Vera Wang gown to the New York Film Festival, then debuted a second black minidress look after the premiere. She added a blazer to that outfit as well:
Gomez spoke to Extra during the New York City premiere about how much Emilia Pérez means to her. “I really feel like this has been such a blessing in this movie,” she said. “I hope people understand the meaning behind it and enjoy it, and I couldn’t be more grateful to [director] Jacques [Audiard] for giving me this opportunity as an actor, so I hope this is just the beginning.”
She touched on her work in the musical, saying, “I had never really performed the kind of dances that were displayed in the movie, but it was fun, and it felt like a release, and screaming the songs and just being passionate was great.” Being able to do a Spanish-speaking role also had extra weight: “It meant the world to me that he trusted me with that and it meant a lot to my family.”
Gomez put a lot of work into her Spanish. “I had coaches, yes, and we communicated every day in Spanish, but, yeah, my dad was even so proud,” she said. “He was like, ‘You’re texting me, mija,’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m texting you in Spanish.’”
