A Hollywood classic is being brought to the stage in Southern California.

“Mrs. Doubtfire,” based on the hit 1993 film of the same name starring Robin Williams and Sally Field, has been adapted into a musical comedy.

Performances run through Oct. 6 at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa.

Heading the cast is two-time Tony nominee Rob McClure, who is reprising the role of Daniel Hillard, who goes undercover as housekeeper Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire to remain close to his children during a difficult divorce.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that the musical “rests on the shoulders of its star, and McClure more than proves up to the task.”

Orange County audiences will experience some of the final shows of McClure’s run as Mrs. Doubtfire, as the Segerstrom Center engagement is his second-to-last in the role.

The 2021 Hollywood Reporter review, which correctly predicted a “lengthy run” for the show, also predicts McClure’s success as Mrs. Doubtfire will leave a lasting legacy.

“His shoes will ultimately be as hard to fill as Williams’ were. And that’s saying something.”
