An investigation is underway Tuesday after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a firetruck in Long Beach overnight. 

Firefighters with the Long Beach Fire Department were responding to a call around 12:30 a.m. when the engine hit the victim as it was leaving the station, a spokesperson from the Long Beach Police Department confirmed.

Video showed the pedestrian was struck just outside the doors of the fire station at Claremont Avenue and Second Street.

Fire Department personnel rendered aid but the victim, believed to be a male, was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was unclear what the pedestrian was doing outside the fire station so early in the morning. 

There was also no immediate word regarding the call firefighters were responding to.
