AUSTIN (KXAN) — State Highway 71 was shut down in both directions Tuesday morning after a fatal crash near Highway 290.

The Austin Police Department said on X it is investigating a traffic fatality in the 7400 block of West SH 71.

The Texas Department of Transportation said both directions of SH 71 near Thomas Spring Road (Old Bee Caves Road) were closed down just before 8 a.m.

APD said traffic was being rerouted to HWY 290, Oak Meadow Dr., and Scenic Brook Dr.

KXAN reached out to first responders for more information and will update this story when we receive a response. A KXAN crew is also headed to the scene.
