A 59-year-old Salida man died Saturday while on a trip down the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, according to the National Park Service.
Park rangers responded to a call about a death near mile 137 at around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, federal officials said in a news release Monday.
Patrick Horton was on the 10th day of a non-commercial river trip when he was found dead by others on the trip.
The National Park Service is investigating his death along with the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Horton is believed to be the seventh person to die at the Grand Canyon since the end of July and the 15th this year, according to the Associated Press. There were 11 fatalities in 2023 and are usually 10 to 15 deaths per year.
