Public transportation may be the way to go around Manhattan this week, as several major events will be accompanied by a slew of street closures.

The Taste of Times Square outdoor food and music festival returns Monday for the first time since 2019 — and brings street closures with it for the day. West 44th Street is closed between 6th Avenue and Broadway; West 45th Street is closed between 6th Avenue and 8th Avenue; West 46th Street is closed between 6th Avenue and 9th Avenue; West 47th Street is closed between 8th Avenue and 9th Avenue; and Broadway is closed between 45th Street and 47th Street.

The NYC Department of Transportation website has a full list of the all expected closures — for events, construction or other reasons — in its weekly traffic advisory.

Starting Tuesday and through Sept. 24, the United Nations General Assembly will cause roadblocks in various parts of several main arteries, from 8th Avenue to 1st Avenue and for sections of FDR Drive. Most of the closures will be concentrated from 34th Street to 63rd Street, with most on streets in the 40s and 50s, as global politicians shuttle to and from the UN headquarters on 1st Avenue between East 42nd and East 49th Streets. The full list is in the city advisory as well.

Several streets in Lower Manhattan will also be cordoned off for the 9/11 Ceremony on Wednesday. Some of those closures include parts of South End Avenue, Liberty Street and Battery Place. All areas bounded by Barclay Street on the north, Rector Street on the south, Broadway on the east and West Street on the West will be closed Wednesday.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are scheduled to attend the ceremony, which could mean additional security or closures in the area. The NYPD hasn’t yet returned a message about any further closures or precautions because of their presence. The New York Times reported former President Donald Trump was also considering attending the NYC memorial service, but his plans hadn’t yet been announced as of early Monday.

Several streets in Chelsea will also be closed through Wednesday for ongoing events related to New York Fashion Week, which started last Friday. Those closures are confined to a limited areas of West 26th and 27th streets between 11th and 12th avenues, as well as 11th Avenue between West 26th and 27th streets.
