Police are looking for a man they say shot three DJs — one of whom has since died — after a party in a residential Queens neighborhood this weekend. The shooting took place in one of the few precincts to see an increase in gun violence this year.

NYPD officials said the three DJs, a 23-year-old and two 24-year-old men, were loading up a van with their equipment in front of a home on 220th Street and 133rd Avenue in Laurelton early Sunday.

Just after 1 a.m., the gunman appeared and fired several rounds at the men, officials said. All three DJs were taken to local hospitals with gunshot wounds, and one of the 24-year-olds was later pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, police said.

The other 24-year-old and the 23-year-old were listed in stable condition, according to police.

NYPD officials did not immediately release the name of the man who died, and were working Monday to find the shooter. Surveillance video shared with CBS from a neighbor near the scene shows a man clad in a black hoodie, struggling to jump over the neighbor’s front-yard fence.

Police said they did not yet have an official description of the shooter, and said the motive was unclear.

As shootings decline overall citywide, the 105th precinct — which includes neighborhoods in eastern Queens like Cambria Heights, Laurelton, Rosedale, Springfield Gardens and Queens village — has seen an increase in gun violence.

According to NYPD’s CompStat database, the precinct has reported 10 shooting incidents prior to this weekend, with 11 victims. Sunday’s incident was the first fatal shooting in the precinct this year.

Six shooting incidents were recorded in the precinct over the same period last year, with 7 victims. Data compiled by Gothamist shows that no one was killed in the precinct in all of 2023.

Other precincts in the Queens South sector have also seen a jump in shooting incidents year to date, according to CompStat, including the 103rd (which includes Hollis and Jamaica), the 102nd (which includes Kew Gardens and Richmond Hill) and the 101st (which includes Far Rockaway).

This is a developing story and may be updated.
