The former chief operating officer of a Willowbrook-based business that sold COVID-19 test kits has been sentenced to six years in prison for swindling nearly $2 million in company funds.

Dennis W. Haggerty Jr., 48, of Burr Ridge, pleaded guilty earlier this year to wire fraud related to the theft of $1.85 million from his former company.

Prosecutors said Haggerty deposited money intended for a test kit supplier into his own bank accounts and used the funds for his personal benefit between 2021 and 2022.

Haggerty was accused of operating the scam while on pretrial release for another scheme where federal authorities said he bilked two hospitals out of $2.5 million for personal protective equipment he never delivered in the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He was sentenced to five years in prison for that. Haggerty must serve his new sentence — technically six years and five months — after completing his prior sentence.
