A 16-year-old  boy was shot multiple times while he was in Washington Park Friday night on the South Side in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Around 7:45 p.m., the boy was in the park in the 700 block of East 53rd Street when he was approached by two unknown people. One of them pulled out a firearm and fired shots at the boy, striking him multiple times to the body, police said.

The boy was taken in critical condition to UChicago Medicine.

No one was in custody, and detectives were investigating.
