A 39-year-old man flagged police down for help after he was stabbed in the neck overnight in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, police said.

Shortly after 12:30 a.m., the victim who had suffered a laceration to the neck waived down patrol officers in the 200 block of South Cicero Avenue. He told the officers that someone approached him with a knife and stabbed him in the neck, police said.

The suspect fled the scene after the stabbing. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

No one was in custody, and detectives were investigating.
