MBTA Transit Police do not suspect foul play, the department said in a statement.

A man fell onto the tracks at the Park Street station and died on Saturday, MBTA Transit Police said.

The man, who has not been publicly identified, fell on the tracks at the southbound platform of the station around 12 p.m. on Saturday, MBTA police said. The statement said the victim was “unsteady on his feet” and “stumbled” into the pit. He landed on the electrified third rail, according to the statement. Authorities say he immediately died on the scene. 

Shuttle buses temporarily replaced Red Line service and all Green Line trains bypassed Park Street while authorities assessed and investigated the scene, MBTA social media said.

A preliminary investigation indicated the victim may have been impaired or intoxicated, the MBTA said. Foul play is not suspected, according to authorities. A thorough investigation is ongoing, MBTA Transit Police said.
