A GoFundMe for the Everett couple killed in a Florida car crash on August 7 has raised nearly $35,000.

The funds raised will be used to support the couple’s three children, one of whom witnessed the crash.

Ronald Jean Baptiste and Yanique Pierre were visiting Lakeland, Florida with their seven-year-old daughter in early August, a statement from the City of Lakeland said. The couple tried to cross ​​South Florida Avenue at the crosswalk when a white Toyota Yaris driven by a 22-year-old Lakeland resident struck and killed both of them, Lakeland authorities said.

Officers responded to the crash at 10:49 p.m. and attempted to perform life-saving measures, the statement said. However, the attempts were unsuccessful and both were declared dead at the scene, Boston.com reported. Baptiste was 54 Pierre was 46. Their child was not injured, the statement said.

“Losing both parents was an unforeseen tragedy, but with help hopefully we can memorialize Mr. and Mrs. Baptiste and bring them home to their loved ones,” the GoFundMe description read in part. As of August 12, the GoFundMe has raised $34,650 of a $70,000 goal.
