Tropical Storm Debby has impacted travelers at Logan Airport this week, delaying and canceling hundreds of flights.

The storm, a Category 1 hurricane when it first made landfall in Florida on Monday, has dumped more than a foot of rain in parts of the south and made a second landfall in South Carolina early Thursday, reported NBC News. 

“The most significant threat with Debby continues to be flash flooding from heavy rainfall … worst today across portions of North Carolina and Virginia, and Friday farther north in the Mid-Atlantic & Northeast U.S.,” wrote the National Hurricane Center on X Thursday morning.

By noon on Thursday, there were 129 delays and 10 cancellations at Logan, according to flight tracking service FlightAware, and Wednesday saw 332 delays and 39 cancellations. 

This week’s cancellations followed a chaotic weekend in which as many as 25 flights were diverted to Logan due to the inclement weather and passengers were left stranded. Some airlines allowed itinerary changes.

By Wednesday, continued cancellations and delays resulted in passengers waiting in long lines and sleeping on the floor at Logan Airport, reported NBC10 Boston.

Rosa Godinho, who was flying Delta Air Lines, told NBC10 Boston that she spent the night at Logan Airport in Terminal A. She said all the hotels nearby were sold out. 

Massport wrote the following weather advisory on its alert page about Logan Airport and Worcester Regional Airport: “Due to Hurricane Debby, flights in and out of the southeastern U.S. may be impacted over the next few days. If planning to travel to this region please check with your airline.”
