Sources: Chiefs’ Pacheco expected to land on IR

Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco is expected to land on injured reserve after suffering a fibula injury during Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday.

Pacheco underwent X-rays on Sunday night and will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine if there is a fracture and or ligament damage to his ankle, sources told ESPN.

He left the game in the final minute and was seen in a walking boot with crutches while leaving the stadium. Chiefs coach Andy Reid did not provide any details after the game other than to say he would undergo tests Monday.

Pacheco, 25, rushed for 90 yards on 19 carries and caught five passes for 21 yards in the 26-25 victory. In two games this season, he’s rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown while averaging 4.0 yards per carry.

The Chiefs list Samaje Perine as the backup to Pacheco on the depth chart, but he did not play Sunday. He was picked up by Kansas City after he was released by the Denver Broncos in their final cuts.

Rookie Carson Steele had seven carries for 24 yards against the Bengals.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
