Clouds, chances of rain could appear throughout Southern California by Sunday afternoon

More rain could sweep through Southern California on Sunday as a cloudy, windy weekend comes to a close.

KTLA 5 future weather radar showed rain rolling through SoCal from the Central Coast down through San Diego County. Some places, particularly those on the coast, woke up to showers earlier in the morning.

Rainfall totals were expected to be variable due to the scattered nature of the showers, the National Weather Service said, but no low-elevation areas were predicted for more than one-quarter of an inch. Some mountain communities could see upwards of one inch.

Just like the rest of the weekend, however, high-wind gusts could headline Sunday. Gusts as strong as 50 miles per hours were forecast in the desert and mountain communities for the late morning and early afternoon.

The winds were expected to die down for most by the evening.

“This is a pretty widespread wind advisory,” KTLA’s Kacey Montoya said.

The rest of the week should get off to a dry and sunny start. Slightly below-average temperatures were in the forecast for the week.

By Friday, however, widespread rain returned for the forecast for most of Southern California. Early NWS predictions showed at least one to three inches of rain for the region.
