As Kate Middleton continues undergoing “preventative chemotherapy” for cancer, Kensington Palace has ruled out the Princess of Wales’ return to royal duties.

“The princess is not expected to return to work until it’s cleared by her medical team,” the spokesman told the BBC, following the release of a new report by the Royal Foundation Business Taskforce for Early Childhood, which is spearheaded by the Princess of Wales. “Early childhood will continue to be central to her public work.”

She founded the foundation and launched her “Shaping Us” early years awareness campaign in January of last year.

Christian Guy, the project’s executive director, claimed the royal was “excited” by the foundation’s campaign and that the early years campaign was “rolling on as she recovers.”

Princess Catherine revealed by video in March that she was receiving treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer. The official announcement followed news that she had undergone abdominal surgery in January —  which became the subject of widespread speculation.

In her health update, the princess said she needed to prioritize her health and looked forward to resuming public work.

“We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment,” she said.

“My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy, and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery.”

While Kensington Palace let media know it will not provide a “running commentary” on Kate’s health, Prince William shared that she was “doing very well” at a visit earlier this month to the Isles of Scilly near the southwest coast of England.
