Tuesday is going to feel like a mid-summer day in Chicagoland.
It’ll be warm and fairly humid, with high temperatures soaring to almost 90.
It was already into the 60s early Tuesday morning but in the 50s to the north, creating very foggy conditions and limited visibility for the far northern part of Chicagoland for the morning commute.
A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for Lake County in Illinois and Kenosha County in Wisconsin until 11 a.m. Tuesday, with visibility reduced to a quarter-mile in areas closer to the lake there.
A south/southeast wind will lift warm air to the north during the day Tuesday and put Chicagoland into the “warm sector,” with hot and fairly sticky air sending temps into the upper 80s and possibly hitting 90 in some locations.
There’s a storm system off to the west early Tuesday morning that will likely pass to the north of Chicagoland, though northern counties could see a daytime storm or two.
The serious chance for severe weather in Chicagoland arrives Tuesday night, with a timeframe of around 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., moving west to east in a line.
All of Chicagoland has been upgraded to a Level 3 out of 5, or enhanced risk, for severe weather during that time. The main threat will be wind gusts with destructive potential. Brief tornadoes are also possible. The severe weather risk is even higher, at Level 4, for areas north and northwest of Chicagoland, stretching into Iowa.
After the storm system clears out overnight, Wednesday looks to be dry and pleasant, with temps reaching the mid-70s.
