CHICAGO — Recent rumors circulating online have fans of the classic animated film ‘The Iron Giant’ wondering if a sequel is in the works.
Over the past few days, a movie poster for ‘The Iron Giant Reforged,’ a supposed sequel to the critically acclaimed 1999 film, has been getting some attention online, sparking questions from fans about whether the rumors are true.
Are The Iron Giant sequel rumors true?
The poster, which was shared on Wednesday, promises a December 2024 release date and indicates a return for the Iron Giant’s voice actor Vin Diesel.
The poster was also accompanied by a caption that claimed the sequel would take place one year after the original film’s end and would feature a reunion between the Iron Giant and the main character, Hogarth Hughes.
The poster however is not real. It is a fake promotional poster that was shared by the satirical Facebook page YODA BBY ABY, which is known for creating fake, and sometimes ridiculous, movie posters.
Will The Iron Giant ever get a sequel?
According to a 2018 X post by Brad Bird, the film’s director, there are no plans to bring the iconic characters back to the big screen.
In the post, Bird responded to a fan who asked about the possibility of a sequel and said that the film had proven to be a financial flop upon its original release. Bird also added that he felt the film did not need a sequel.
“There’s no need. The first one tells the story I set out to tell. Some stories actually end with THE END,” Bird said in the X post.
