Queerbomb seeking community funding for 2024 Pride event

US

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Queerbomb, a community-run and funded annual Pride festival in Austin, is getting ready for its 2024 celebration, but it still needs funding for the event.

Queerbomb is known for being an radical, alternative and free Pride festival that’s happened every year since 2010, according to its website.

The organization has an active GoFundMe page that’s seeking to raise $10,000. As of Friday morning, it had raised $2,302.

The GoFundMe page noted that Queerbomb has “struggled to make a comeback from the pandemic,” and that each year, it “grows in size, strength, and passion,” meaning that the cost also grows because of increased fees from vendors and greater resources required by the city in order to meet the needs of the event.

The organization said more than 5,000 people usually attend Queerbomb.

The page also breaks down the exact cost of city fees and permits, venue costs, insurance, and equipment rental costs. It says the goal of $10,000 covers the “bare bones event costs” and doesn’t include merch, signs/decor, emcees, DJs or anything else needed for the event.

Queerbomb said during Pride month, it strives to “embody the courageousness of our ancestors at Stonewall,” by holding a celebration geared toward being radically inclusive and anti-corporate.

Queerbomb is also holding a fundraising event Friday at the Austin Eagle from 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The annual Pride event takes place the first Saturday of June, falling on June 1 this year. It will be held at Austin Garden and Studio, located at 1209 East Sixth St. from 4-8 p.m. with a march starting at 8.
