“The Office” star Rainn Wilson revealed on Thursday’s episode of “The View” that he’d be interested in reprising his role as Dwight Schrute in the newly announced spinoff.
The spinoff was announced Wednesday of the beloved sitcom which aired from 2005 to 2013 and followed the lives of office workers at a fictional company called Dunder Mifflin in Scranton, Pa.
It will follow a similar mockumentary style, but it will focus on a publisher trying to revive a dying daily newspaper in the Midwest.
“I literally know nothing about it, but I love the idea that they’re trying to do an ‘Office’ spinoff, not in Dunder Mifflin, not with the same characters, but a documentary crew following a different workplace,” said Wilson, who played Dwight for all nine seasons of the sitcom’s original run.
“Star Wars” actor Domhnall Gleeson and “The White Lotus” actress Sabrina Impacciatore will star in the show along with an ensemble cast that has not been announced yet. Production is expected to start in July. The show will stream on Peacock.

Wilson said he’d be interested in making an appearance on the show.
“If Dwight Schrute shows up at a newspaper in the Midwest, then I’m there,” Wilson said.
Wilson also spoke about the lasting power the show has even 10 years after it ended. He recalled a prank pulled on him when he ordered room service at a hotel in Italy.
“The cart shows up, I’m hungry, my wife is sick, I’m tired and there’s no silverware, it’s encased in Jello,” Wilson said.
The prank was a callback to when John Krasinski’s character, Jim Halpert, put Dwight’s stapler in Jello.
“The show is huge, like around the world,” Wilson said. “It’s a paper company in Scranton and it’s huge in Italy.”
Wilson also talked about reuniting with one of his co-stars from “The Office,” Angela Kinsey, on his podcast “Soul Boom” which focuses on a wide range of topics connected to spirituality.
“One of the things Angela and I talked about was grief and the process of grief, because she had lost her father and some other family members and I had lost my father during COVID,” Wilson said.
He hopes to get more of his former co-stars on the show.
“I’d love to get more ‘Office’ cast on there,” Wilson said. “I love having stand-up comics and thinkers and theologians and authors.”
New episodes of “Soul Boom” are released every Tuesday.
