Gypsy Rose Blanchard Reportedly Has a Wild Theory About Taylor Swift

Gypsy Rose Blanchard not only connects to Taylor Swift‘s song “Fresh Out the Slammer” — she allegedly thinks the songwriter penned the track specifically about her.

Swift, 34, dropped the fan-favorite song on The Tortured Poets Department, her latest critically-acclaimed album that was released on April 19. Five months earlier, Gypsy Rose — a victim of Munchausen by Proxy at the hands of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard — was released from prison after serving seven years for her role in Dee Dee’s murder. (The murder itself was carried out by Gypsy Rose’s then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, who is serving life in prison for the crime.)

“Fresh Out the Slammer” describes a woman leaving prison into the arms of her lover.

“Now, pretty baby, I’m runnin’ back home to you / Fresh out the slammer, I know who my first call will be to,” Swift sings on the track.

Gypsy Rose, according to TMZ, believes the song is about her real life (or at least inspired by it): leaving prison heading into her marriage to Ryan Anderson, whom she wed while she was behind bars. Notably, Gypsy Rose, 32, called it quits with Anderson four months after her December 2023 release and has now reunited with her ex-fiance, Ken Urker.

Per the outlet, Gypsy Rose particularly relates to the line “camera flashes, welcome bashes,” as she has prominently been in the spotlight since leaving jail.

While some fans have theorized the same, claiming (even jokingly) that it’s no coincidence the song came out just several months after Gypsy’s release, the major consensus is that Swift used prison as a metaphor for the end of her six-year relationship with Joe Alwyn. The man first on her list to call? Matty Healy, whom she briefly dated in May.

“Fresh Out the Slammer” is not Swift’s first foray into the true crime genre. On Evermore, which she dropped in 2020, the Grammy winner collaborated with longtime friends HAIM on “No Body, No Crime,” a song literally about a fictionalized murder of a cheating man.

Meanwhile, the Reputation track “Getaway Car” — which mentions notorious true crime duo Bonnie and Clyde and is about a woman escaping with her lover, only to leave him and take the goods — is widely theorized to be about Swift leaving her relationship with Calvin Harris for Tom Hiddleston, whom she met (and danced with) at the 2015 Met Gala. The idea of leaving Hiddleston (“that was the last time you ever saw me,” she sings) could be about their breakup later that year. Swift also met Alwyn at that Met Gala, though they didn’t begin dating until 2018.
