Travis County holds final in-person foreclosure auction

US

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Travis County held its final in-person foreclosure auction Tuesday morning. Starting in June, it will host these sales online, the release said.

Travis County has auctioned off foreclosed properties at the county courthouse.

Those auctions happen on the first Tuesday of the month, and only those in person could bid, according to a news release from the Travis County Tax Assessor.

County leaders said moving the auctions online will be good for bidders and the county’s bottom line.

“People won’t have to physically come down to the steps of the courthouse to bid on properties. And people from literally all over the world can register to be a bidder and bid on properties. And we expect that we will be doing a favor for Travis County because we will be collecting more of the money that’s owed,” said Travis County Tax Assessor-Collector Bruce Elfant.

Tuesday’s auction was for property foreclosed after owners missed the tax bill deadline in January, the release said. Those properties are worth a combined $5.6 million.
