AUSTIN (KXAN) — Ascension, a health care company with locations in Central Texas, said it detected unusual activity on select technology network systems Wednesday.

The company said it believed it was due to a cyber security event.

“At this time we continue to investigate the situation,” Ascension said. “We responded immediately, initiated our investigation and activated our remediation efforts. Access to some systems have been interrupted as this process continues.”

Ascension said its team has initiated procedures to make sure patient care was safe and impacted as little as possible.

The company said the main disruption was to its clinical operations.

“We are working to fully investigate what information, if any, may have been affected by the situation,” Ascension said. “Should we determine that any sensitive information was affected, we will notify and support those individuals in accordance with all relevant regulatory and legal guidelines.”
