Authorities in New Jersey are investigating a suspected murder-suicide after they discovered the bodies of two people inside a residence in Gloucester County.

Officers with the Clayton Police Department were alerted Tuesday night to a potential domestic incident — during which shots were fired — at the Academy Arms Apartments along North Broad Street, according to a statement from authorities.

When they arrived at the residence around 7 p.m., first responders discovered two people, a man and a woman, with fatal gunshot wounds.

Both were pronounced dead on the scene. The victims were identified only as a 45-year-old male and a 43-year-old woman. Neither of their names has been released.

“The initial investigation indicates that this was a murder-suicide,” the Clayton Police Department said.

Authorities at this time suspect the deadly violence stemmed from a domestic conflict, and they do not believe there is any risk to the public at this time. No other details were provided.

An investigation into the matter is ongoing and anyone with information relevant to the case has been asked to call the Clayton Police Department.
