2 women shot in Hamilton Heights, per NYPD

US

Two women were hospitalized on Monday night after someone shot them in Upper Manhattan, according to police.

NYPD officials said officers responded to a 911 call for a person shot around 8:30 p.m. in front of 560 West 144th St. in Hamilton Heights. They found a 63-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her left underarm and right hand and a 39-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her right leg.

Both women were taken to Harlem Hospital in stable condition, the officials said. It was not immediately why the women were shot, how they were related or if they knew the perpetrator.

No suspects had been identified as of early Tuesday morning.

Shootings are relatively uncommon in the 30th NYPD precinct, which encompasses the West Harlem neighborhoods of Hamilton Heights and Sugar Hill, along with Riverside Park and Jackie Robinson Park. NYPD data compiled by Gothamist shows two people were fatally shot in the precinct last year, in two separate incidents.

So far this year, two shootings have been reported in the precinct. In January, 39-year-old Omar Espinal died after being shot in a car on West 135th Street.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
