As areas across southeast Texas continue to recover from the heavy rain conditions, many residents in the Kingwood and Channelview areas are trying to recoup from the catastrophic flooding this week.

ABC13’s Nick Natario reported from a neighborhood in Kingwood on Sunday, where he spoke with homeowners cleaning up the mess from their flooded homes.

Houses in the Kingwood area have been flooding since Friday. Some neighbors living in the area have thrown their belongings on the side of their streets, while others don’t know where to begin in the clean-up efforts.

“It’s a terrible, demoralizing feeling. It ain’t a fire, but it’s a close second,” a Kingwood homeowner told ABC13.

In a post posted on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter, the City of Houston Office of Emergency Management provided a QR code to report the extent of any home damage caused by the strong storms this week.

ABC13’s Shannon Ryan reported from Channelview, where she toured the area and spoke to residents who lost their homes and belongings from the flood.

Within the area, conditions are improving with the floodwaters, and rescue crews believe the water has dropped by about a foot.

Rescue crews told ABC13 that they rescued about 15 to 20 people from these waters but have since returned to their own homes.

Several residents even had to leave their pets behind after not being able to find shelter for them.

One Channelview resident spoke with Eyewitness News on how she’s dealing with the dreadful flooding this week.

“I lost everything. Everything’s flooded….. I need to start over,” she said.

Nevertheless, there will be sporadic showers and thunderstorms throughout southeast Texas until sunset, with flooding being the primary concern.
