Chiefs Fans Calling Xavier Worthy a Bust Following Some Dropped Passes in Practice

US

The Kansas City Chiefs have been the talk of the NFL world over the last few seasons, and for good reason. Since 2019, Kansas City has won three Super Bowl titles, giving them a true dynasty in the making. They will be entering the upcoming season looking for a three-peat, and the organization took it upon themselves to add even more talent for their attempt.

The Chiefs traded up in the first round of the NFL Draft with the Buffalo Bills to land wide receiver Xavier Worthy out of the University of Texas. Kansas City dealt with all sorts of issues with their receiving core last season, winning the Super Bowl despite them.

Naturally, the fans of the Chiefs have come to expect excellence from their team. Worthy was seen taking some reps in practice on May 4, and within, he is seen dropping some passes. With this, fans started to call him a ‘bust,’ likely stemming from their PTSD from this past season when the Chiefs wide-outs led the NFL in dropping passes.

Here are some of the reactions from fans to the drops that Worthy was making during practice.

While it’s just practice during the offseason, it’s fair for fans to worry after what they witnessed last season. Kansas City had 44 dropped passes from their wide receivers a year ago, so this isn’t a great start. However, there will be a learning curve for Worthy as he enters the NFL from the college level. This is one of the first times that he has been taking passes at this level, and he needs to get timing down.

There was a reason why Kansas City selected him as a first-round wide receiver and he should be just fine. Last season at Texas, Worthy posted 75 catches for 1,014 yards and five touchdowns over 14 games. He helped lead the Longhorns to the College Football Playoff for the first time and was dominant throughout the season.

Playing with star quarterback Patrick Mahomes should do wonders for Worthy, and he is likely to become one of the favorite targets for the two-time MVP. Additionally, having guys like tight end Travis Kelce, wide receiver Skyy Moore, and wide-out Hollywood Brown around him should help him ease into his new life as a member of the Chiefs. Once the games actually get going, we will see how he translates to the professional level. For now, everyone take a deep breath and relax on any drops he may have in practice.
