Meghan McCain Slams Drew Barrymore’s Cringey “Momala” Moment With Kamala Harris: “Have Some F***ing Respect”

US

Meghan McCain has a bone to pick with Drew Barrymore. Days after Barrymore came under fire for telling Vice President Kamala Harris she needed to be “Momala of the country” on The Drew Barrymore Show, the former View co-host urged the actress-turned-talk show host to “have some fucking respect.”

On Thursday’s (May 1) episode of her Meghan McCain Has Entered the Chat podcast, McCain blasted Barrymore’s up-close-and-personal interview style, which often finds her cozying up to her guests and, at times, physically touching them.

“I know that’s Drew Barrymore’s thing, but someone needs to talk to her,” McCain said, per Entertainment Weekly. “Not everything you do is a therapy session, and some of this stuff is just not appropriate.”

She added, “These are people who deserve respect in all ways, and that includes physically respecting the space you’re occupying with them.”

McCain also had some strong opinions about Barrymore’s “cringe” moment with Harris on Monday’s (April 29) episode of The Drew Barrymore Show.

“This is the Vice President of the United States of America. This is the strongest country with the most robust military in world history,” McCain said. “If, God forbid, something happens to President Biden, she is the woman who will be our commander in chief with the nuclear codes.”

She continued, “Have some fucking respect, Drew Barrymore. I don’t like it. I know she probably didn’t have ill intentions, but her producers and whoever is working the show, if you’re going to interview people at this level, it is a privilege.”

During Barrymore’s chat with Harris, they spent the majority of the time discussing their home lives, with Barrymore telling the VP, “I keep thinking in my head that we all need a mom. I’ve been thinking that we really all need a tremendous hug in the world right now. But in our country, we need you to be Momala of the country.”

Harris revealed that her step-children call her “Momala” moments before Barrymore made the comment.

“I sure as hell wouldn’t be sitting on her lap talking about how she needs to be my mom, crying,” McCain said. “It’s disrespectful, and it’s disrespectful to our presidency and vice presidency.”

The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. You can check the website for local airtimes.
