US

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Some Houston-area residents are without power as southeast Texas experiences severe storms and heavy rain on Thursday.

We have issued an ABC13 Weather Alert Day through 1 p.m. on Friday.

According to CenterPoint Energy’s outage tracker, more than 81,000 Houston-area customers are without power as of 3:30 p.m.

The outage areas are spread out across the Houston area, with about 623 of the reported customers without power in the Galveston area and more than 2,000 in the Montgomery County area.

The outages come as several counties have experienced significant flooding. Residents just south of Lake Conroe Dam near the San Jacinto River were also told to take immediate action due to a release of water from the lake to account for ongoing heavy rain.
