A Merrillville man was charged after allegedly shooting guns at an apartment complex.

No one was hurt.

Julian Ayala, 23, of Merrillville, was charged April 27 with criminal recklessness.

He posted a $3,000 bond Monday. His next hearing is May 8.

Merrillville Police responded at 12:45 a.m. April 26 to a third-floor apartment on the 8300 block of Polo Club Drive for multiple shots fired calls.

Police searched the complex, before they spotted broken windows on a third-floor apartment.

I’m defending myself, Ayala yelled to them, adding he would put his guns up, which were a rifle and pistol.

A roommate told police he moved in the prior week; on April 27, the roommate had locked himself in the bathroom, until cops forced that door open.

Ayala told officers he thought the roommate’s friends were trying to climb up a ladder and break into his room.
