Southern California crash leaves 5 dead

Five people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on a remote portion of Pearblossom Highway in the Antelope Valley Sunday night.

The crash was reported just after 8 p.m. on State Road 138 at 106th Street East in the Little Rock area.

First responders from the California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Fire Department found a Toyota in the brush that had flipped onto its roof and a Mitsubishi on its side on the shoulder of the roadway. Victims were trapped inside both vehicles.

Both drivers and three passengers inside one of the vehicles were killed in the crash, a CHP spokesperson said.

The ages and genders of the victims were not immediately known.

The deadly collision prompted an hours-long Sigalert for lane closures that was finally lifted around 4 a.m. Monday.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
