Gérard Depardieu in police custody for sexual assault allegations

French actor Gérard Depardieu is in police custody and being questioned about multiple sexual assault allegations ahead of an upcoming trial, according to reports.

Depardieu, 75, was detained Monday at the 3rd Judicial District Police in Paris, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported.

The “Green Card” and “Cyrano de Bergerac” actor is being questioned over accusations from two women alleging he sexually assaulted them on movie sets in France in 2014 and 2021, according to CNN. He was accused of assault by two women who worked on the 2021 film “The Green Shutters,” in February, but it’s unclear if both women’s complaints are still being investigated.

The 2014 allegation was reported to police in January, Le Parisien reported. The outlet added that Depardieu was released later Monday and will be tried in October 2024 for sexual assault.

The Paris police declined request for comment from multiple outlets, including the Associated Press.

Earlier this year, actress Hélène Darra dropped a complaint against Depardieu regarding an alleged assault on a film set in 2008. His current detention is not related to that case, according to reports.

He was also previously charged with rape and sexual assault of actor Charlotte Arnould in 2020 but has not been convicted.

In total, Depardieu has been accused by more than a dozen women of harassing, groping or sexually assaulting them.

Depardieu has publicly denied the allegations and received support from others in the French movie biz.

The reported detainment comes days after disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein’s New York City rape and sex crime conviction was overturned by an appeals court.
