The Patriots are adding another quarterback into the mix, selecting Tennessee’s Joe Milton with the 193rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Milton has a similar skillset to his fellow rookie signal caller Drake Maye. Both have top-end arm strength in the 2024 class, and Milton in particular is believed by scouts to have the biggest arm in the draft.

The focus remains on Maye moving forward, but Milton adds some insurance and intrigue into the increasingly crowded QB room in Foxborough. Officially, there are five QBs on New England’s roster: Maye, Milton, Jacoby Brissett, Nathan Rourke, and Bailey Zappe.

Milton played six seasons of college football beginning in 2018 at Michigan. After three seasons in Ann Arbor, Milton transferred to Tennessee for his final three seasons. He gained traction there and was the team’s full-time starter in 2023. In that season, he amassed 2,813 passing yards and 20 touchdowns, with a 64.7 percent completion rate. Milton added another 299 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.

At 6-foot-5-inches, 246 pounds, Milton’s size is also considered an upside at the QB position, along with his strength.

The Patriots have used six of their seven draft selections thus far on offensive players: Two quarterbacks, two receivers, and two offensive linemen. They have one more selection, a seventh-round pick (231st overall).
