A student at a Dorchester high school was hospitalized Wednesday after being stabbed by another student, who is now in police custody, school officials said.

Boston police confirmed that they responded to TechBoston Academy on Peacevale Road around 12:25 p.m. Wednesday. The student who was stabbed suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, Boston Public Schools told families.

Head of School Patrick Cleary wrote to families that the victim was stabbed during a fight between the two students. TechBoston Academy is a 6-12 school with 870 students.

“I want to reassure all members of the TechBoston Academy Community this was an isolated incident between two students, and that we will take every step necessary to ensure that our students feel safe and welcomed,” Cleary wrote.

Cleary said that the school was on lockdown for about 20 minutes while BPS Safety Services, Boston police, and EMS responded to the school. Boston police said the investigation is ongoing.

BPS or Boston police wouldn’t comment on the ages of the students involved.

In 2022, a teacher and a student were shot in the parking lot at TechBoston Academy. They were hospitalized with serious but not life-threatening wounds.
