AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Friday, the Austin Police Department released the body-worn camera footage of officers involved in a shooting April 6 in southwest Austin.

The man shot in the incident was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No charges are pending, though APD said the case remained under investigation. He was released from the hospital on April 7, police said.

Per APD policy, videos related to shootings involving officers must be released within 10 business days of the incident.

APD released one 911 audio file, one police radio traffic audio file and two body cam videos– one from Officer Gabriel Walker Prado and Officer Adam Reinhart.

Those materials can be viewed on APD’s YouTube channel.

Prado is the one who discharged his department-issued firearm, and he has been with APD for seven months. He has been placed on administrative leave, police said in a news release Friday.

Reinhart was not involved in the shooting. However, his body cam footage was released to help tell the “sequence of events,” police said.

Shooting at apartment complex

Officers responded to a disturbance call at approximately 2 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 3000 block of Tamarron Boulevard where a caller said a physical disturbance could be heard from a nearby apartment.

APD said two officers arrived at the scene, found the apartment with the disturbance, approached the front door and announced themselves as Austin police officers. A third officer arrived shortly after and went to the rear patio door of the apartment.

Through a sliding glass door, the third officer, later identified as Prado, saw the man with a gun. APD said Prado saw the man walk toward the front door and yelled the warning of “gun, gun, gun,” before firing his weapon and hitting the man.

There was another man involved in the disturbance who walked out of the apartment after the shooting. Police said Friday he did not have any injuries.
