AUSTIN (KXAN) — Some locals held a vigil Wednesday night after several dogs were found dead in South Boggy Creek earlier this week.

People who live near Shiloh Drive off of Menchaca Road in south Austin saw what they counted as 11 dead dogs in South Boggy Creek who were wrapped in trash bags or covered in garbage earlier this week.

The Austin Police Department told KXAN Monday it was “currently conducting an investigation in the vicinity of Shiloh Drive” in collaboration with Animal Protection.

It’s still unclear how the dogs died or who could have left them there.

Neighbors cleaned the area and laid flowers out to honor the dogs Wednesday evening, and even took their own dogs to visit the area.

One resident told KXAN she lets her dogs run loose in the area often and hopes the community can reclaim the beauty of the space after the tragedy.
