CDC warns of Salmonella contamination in Trader Joe’s product in Illinois

ILLINOIS — The CDC has recalled an organic basil brand sold exclusively at Trader Joe’s in seven states, including Illinois.

According to the CDC, the Infinite Herbs brand of organic basil. 2.5 oz, with a clamshell-style containers has caused 12 illnesses, one hospitalization but no deaths.

The item is sold in 29 states and Washington DC, including Illinois.

The CDC recommends that the public checks their home for the contaminated basil, to throw it away or return it, wash items and services it may have touched, and call your health provider if you have any of these severe Salmonella symptoms:

  • Diarrhea and a fever higher than 102 degrees
  • DIarrhea for more than 3 days that is not improving
  • Bloody diarrhea
  • So much vommitting that you cannot keep liquids down
  • Signs of dehydration
