A woman was walking along a Washington highway when she hitched a ride, then killed the driver with his own truck, police said.
Gerald R. Fox, 70, was found dead on the side of a road at about 7:15 p.m. April 9, the Spokane Police Department said in April 16 Facebook post.
Fox had been thrown into a fence from the impact, police said. Police then received reports of someone driving recklessly, and the vehicle belonged to the man, according to the department.
Lincoln County deputies stopped the truck and arrested 27-year-old Alyssa K. Bray on suspicion of DUI and eluding a police vehicle.
Police said they later connected her to Fox’s death and booked her on a first-degree murder charge April 16.
Bray had been walking on Sunset Highway when Fox stopped to give her a ride, police said. She then stole his truck and struck him with it, according to police.
“The willingness of concerned citizens to report dangerous and suspicious behavior was critical in allowing investigators to make a timely arrest on this incident,” police said.
