CHICAGO — Healthcare workers who gathered in Chicago said they will continue pushing the American Medical Association (AMA) to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
A group of healthcare workers gathered outside of the AMA’s board meeting in River North for a rally on Sunday.
Those who spoke at the rally condemned what they called a “double standard” by the AMA, regarding their response to the war in Ukraine and Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza.
Sunday’s rally was the fourth healthcare worker protest over the AMA’s response to the war.
The war, which is now reaching its seventh month, began after a surprise attack by Hamas in Israel in early October.
The rally was held only a day after Iran launched an attack on Israel in retaliation for a strike on an Iranian consular building in Syria, which is widely blamed on Israel.
The United States assisted Israel in bringing down many of the drones and missiles. Authorities in Israel later said that 99% of the weapons were brought down without causing any significant damage.
Tensions in the region continue to rise following the attack as officials in the United States work to prevent an escalation across the region.
