LOCKHART, Texas (KXAN) — The people who work at a bank in downtown Lockhart are used to customers stopping by to deposit their bucks, but that took on a whole new meaning Thursday.

A deer jumped through a window at the First Lockhart National Bank located at 120 West San Antonio Street and made a big mess inside.

Randy Till, the bank’s executive vice president and CEO, said employees heard a loud crash when the deer crashed into the community room. No one was fortunately in the room at the time, but the stunned deer proceeded to make its way through other parts of the building trying to escape.

Till told KXAN Lockhart police soon arrived and called in Animal Control officers. They worked for 20 minutes to move the deer toward the building’s front door, and the animal eventually ran outside. Police also stopped traffic on the street for a time so that the deer could safely escape, an employee said.

The bank already boarded up the broken windows and is bringing in a cleaning crew to tidy up the areas where the frightened deer ventured inside the bank.

Till said he had never seen anything like this before even after working at the bank for 47 years, and he’s glad it appears the deer will be okay after seeing it scamper away.
