Suspect in Rockford neighborhood slayings faces 11 counts of Murder and Attempted Murder

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Christian Soto, 22, the suspect in a bloody rampage through a Rockford neighborhood that left 4 dead and 7 injured on Wednesday, was booked into the Winnebago County Jail at 12:39 a.m Thursday.

According to court records, Soto is facing 11 counts of Murder and Attempted Murder, and 2 counts of Home Invasion with a Dangerous Weapon.

Court records also show Soto resides on Upland Drive, near where the slayings occurred on Holmes Street, Winnetka Drive, Cleveland Avenue, and Eggleston Road.

Police said the four deceased victims were a 15-year-old female, a 63-year-old female, a 49-year-old male and a 22-year-old male. The U.S. Postal Service confirmed a mail carrier was one of the dead.

Police said a motive for the attacks was unknown.

The neighborhood is located east of N. Alpine Road between Charles Street. and Harrison Avenue.

He is due in court for his pretrial release hearing on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

Court records show Soto was previously convicted of a traffic violation, of driving 20 mph over the speed limit on March 12th and ordered to pay a $164 fine. An earlier felony charge, of criminal damage to property in September 2022, was dismissed.

The City of Rockford said emotional support and counseling services will be offered free of charge at Flinn Middle School, at 2525 Ohio Pkwy, beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday.
