A taxi driver was killed and a passenger was injured in a single-vehicle crash in Boston Saturday night, police said.

The taxi driver, a 68-year-old Lynn man, was driving the passenger, a 24-year-old Cambridge woman, from the Logan airport to her residence when he lost control of the taxi, according to a release by State Police.

The crash occurred at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday while the taxi, a Toyota Camry, was traveling westbound on Soldier Field Road, officials said.

A preliminary investigation shows that the driver lost control for unknown reasons in the area of Weeks Footbridge, went off the road, and struck a tree on the grassy shoulder, according to police.

A trooper on scene performed CPR on the driver until EMS arrived and transported him to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, according to the release.

The passenger was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, officials said.

State Police are investigating the crash, including what caused the taxi operator to lose control.
