SAN JOSE — A bicyclist who was hit by a driver last summer in San Jose died of his injuries this week, police said.
The collision happened around 3:25 p.m. on June 25 at East Santa Clara and North 13th streets, San Jose police Officer Tanya Hernandez said in a news release Thursday.
The driver of a 2003 Lexus was turning westbound onto East Santa Clara Street from southbound North 13th Street when he hit a man riding a bicycle eastbound on East Santa Clara Street, Hernandez said.
The man was taken to a hospital with injuries that were later determined to be life-threatening. The driver, meanwhile, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Hernandez said the man died of his injuries Wednesday. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release his identity once it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.
The death marked the third traffic fatality of the year on city streets. Police had not investigated any roadway deaths at this time last year.
